You Don’t Have to Wait Until November to Fight for Our Kids.

Hi, friends!

I want to say something plainly: the work that determines what happens in November is happening right now.

On June 20th, the Virginia Beach Democratic Party holds its District 10 caucus.

Let’s show up for District 10 students, parents, families, VBCPS teachers & staff. Together.

Mark your calendars: The Virginia Beach Democratic Local Candidate Caucus (for School Board, District 10) is happening at:

📍Bow Creek Recreation Center, located at 3427 Club House Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23452.

📅 Saturday, June 20th, 2026

⏰ 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Here's what you need to know about participating: No formal party registration is required. You simply need to show up, confirm you're a Democratic voter, and sign a brief declaration that you're not participating in another party's nomination process - and that you intend to support the Democratic nominee in the upcoming election.(And if you’re in line by 3:00 p.m., you will be able to vote.)

That is the moment Democrats in this community choose who carries the party's endorsement into the general election. Between now and June 19th, every action taken on behalf of this campaign matters.

The good news? There are so many ways to be part of this, at whatever level works for your life. You don't need a lot of time. You don't need a lot of money. You just need to be willing to show up in whatever way you can.

Here's what that can look like.

Our Kids Can't Wait Until November. Neither Can We.

The most powerful thing you can do right now is show up in person.

Knock on doors with us. Come to an event. Have a real conversation with a neighbor about what is at stake for our schools and our children. No experience needed. We will give you everything you need to get started.

There is something that happens in face-to-face moments that no social post can replicate. People feel heard. They show up. And that is exactly what we need between now and June 20th.

There's a Place for You in This, Starting Right Now.

Maybe knocking doors isn't your thing right now. Maybe your schedule is packed. I hear you, and I mean this sincerely: you can still make a real difference.

Follow us on Facebook and Instagram. Share our posts. Tag a neighbor who cares about Virginia Beach schools. These actions take minutes and reach people I can't reach on my own.

Local elections are decided by margins that would surprise you. Your share might be the one that starts the right conversation at the right time.

District 10 Needs You Now, Not Just in November.

If you're ready to go deeper, I want you on our team.

Volunteering means you become part of the infrastructure that makes everything else possible. Canvassing routes. Phone banking. Event support. Whatever your skills and availability, we have a role for you.

And if you've been waiting for a reason to get involved in local Democratic activism, this is it. School board races shape the daily lives of every child and family in this district. This is as local as it gets, and as consequential as it gets.

Don't wait until November. Sign up today at jannellcsmith.com/volunteer.

We Are Building Something Real.

I started this campaign because District 10 deserves a school board member who is living through the same challenges as the families she serves. A parent. A veteran. A mental health professional. Someone who knows that a child who isn't well cannot learn, and that a teacher who can't afford to live in the community where they work will eventually leave it.

Whether you show up in person, spread the word online, or join our volunteer team, you are part of something that matters.

The next few weeks are everything. And I am so grateful you are in it with me.

💜 💚 💛
